Kirby Edmonds ACTION Award for Social Justice
|
Kirby Edmonds devoted his life to resolving inter-group conflicts, promoting human rights, and dismantling discrimination and the exclusion of people on the basis of race, culture, class, sex, disability, sexual orientation or gender identity. Kirby was a member of Activists Committed to Interrupting Oppression Now (ACTION), a local coalition of outspoken change-makers who wish to honor Kirby’s encouragement of powerful young activists.
In honor of his legacy, the Kirby Edmonds ACTION Award for Social Justice specifically recognizes the contributions of young Black, Latine and Indigenous people living in Tompkins County whose work exemplifies the spirit of Kirby’s mission to change the world, and who are not typically recognized by the mainstream.
Two awards of $1,000 are given annually. One is given to someone aged 14-18 and the other to someone aged 19-29.
